2019 Reflection

Whether you have set clear detailed goals at the beginning of the year, or you haven’t, there is still value to take some time to reflect on how your year has gone, in order to set yourself up for success for 2020. To move forward successfully – we must look back!

I really believe there is a strong correlation between reflections and positive progress. Reflecting means that any mistakes we have made, become learnings to proper us forward to where we want to get to. I love the quote by Thomas Edison “I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”. Reflecting is a great way to turn failures into lessons.

It tends to be easier to think of what didn’t go so well, then what did but there will always be wins, however small they seem and small wins add up to something much bigger when you are reflecting on the past 365 days! Focusing on what went well will also help you work out what you can do more of in 2020.

I also think it’s really important to reflect on your energy. I prefer looking at energy compared to time, as I think it is a more accurate representation of mental stability. We might have tasks we do that take us no time at all, but really zap our energy or vice versa. Having clarity on how we use our energy and taking the time to conserve it where possible, means you will have much more to give on the things that really matter to you.

Here are a few questions that I find useful to ask myself at the end of the year. I tend to look at all aspects of my life in order to give a 365 degree view of where I am:

· What went well for you this year?

· What didn’t go so well?

· What are you most proud of?

· What did you learn about yourself?

· What did you spend too much energy on?

· What did you spend too little energy on? #goals
